THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan on Monday denounced the attack following the fire incident on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express and ordered the police to conduct an extensive probe into the matter and present all relevant information to the court. The state police chief himself is overseeing the effort to apprehend the attacker. "The attack is terribly sad and upsetting. Have asked the police to undertake a full investigation into the event and bring all the circumstances of the crime before the law," said Pinarai Vijayan.
The Kerala government would take decisive action to guarantee rail passengers' safety. The state government will take decisive action to protect the safety of rail passengers, and we will ask the Central Railway Ministry to take immediate action to secure their safety, he said.
The CM added that the injured will receive the proper care. Senior police officers and DGP Anil Kant met today in Kannur to discuss the formation of a special investigative team. As part of the inquiry, the Railway Police inspected the Government District Hospital in Kannur. No one has been detained as of yet.
The incident on the Alappuzha-Kannur train took place on Sunday night in the Kozhikode district, close to Elathur. Following an incident where a man allegedly doused co-passengers in fuel and set one of them ablaze, causing at least eight other people to sustain burn injuries, railway officials said on Monday that three individuals, including an infant, were found dead on a railway track close to Elathur. The man allegedly set a passenger on fire following an argument on board the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train near Elathur in the Kozhikode district on Sunday night, according to the officials.
"Rahmath, her sister's two-year-old kid, and Noufal were found dead near the train track," stated a representative of the Railway Protection Force. "The suspect, who is yet to be identified, escaped after passengers pulled the emergency chain" (RPF). Police are investigating the scene, and forensic specialists have reached.
Railway sources claim that the incident happened on April 2 at around 10:00 p.m. in the D1 coach of the Alappuzha Kannur Main Executive Express train. As per reports, there was a fight during which one of the passengers was doused with fuel and set ablaze. Burn injuries were sustained by other passengers who tried to put out the fire. Three ladies were among those hurt.
At Elathur, the train was stopped, and the event was reported to the railway authorities. Following the required inspection, the train was sent to its destination, according to Railway Protection Force (RPF) authorities. "All eight passengers with burn injuries have been transferred to hospitals," they added.
