Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee, who previously insulted Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Parliament, has repeated his offensive actions. Once again, he mocked the Vice President, asserting that he would do so a thousand times. In response, Vice President Dhankhar stated that he is a resilient individual who knows how to face insults.

Suspended Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked Vice President Dhankhar during a rally in Srirampur, West Bengal. Following the act, he stated, "I will continue to do mimicry. It is a form of art. If necessary, I will do this a thousand times. I have the fundamental right to express my views. Put me in jail; I will not back down."

On December 19, 2023, Kalyan Banerjee had ridiculed Vice President Dhankhar at the Makar Gate of the new Parliament. He imitated the Vice President while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recorded the incident, and other MPs present laughed at his actions.

Vice President Dhankhar responded to Kalyan Banerjee's actions, stating, "I am a victim." He emphasized that a victim knows how to stand tall while enduring insults and emphasized the need for honesty and high moral values. Vice President Dhankhar did not offer an apology for Kalyan Banerjee's actions.

Addressing officials of the Indian Statistical Service at his Delhi residence on December 24, 2023, Vice President Dhankhar stated, "I am in a constitutional post. I am the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, but people do not leave me either. Should I change my path? No, we always have to walk on the right path. We must be open-minded; the second approach may sometimes be correct. But those who attempt to divert attention and deviate from the path of service will have to show the strength of their backbone."

Kalyan Banerjee's insult was not taken lightly, with President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressing their displeasure. BJP MPs protested in the Rajya Sabha for an hour against the insult to Vice President Dhankhar. Khap Panchayats of the Jat community also demanded an apology from Kalyan Banerjee, threatening to gherao the houses of Trinamool Congress MPs if an apology was not issued.
