Triple murder in UP's Badaun, 4 arrested

BADAUN: Four people have been detained by police in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, for the triple murder of a former district panchayat member, his wife, and mother.

Police said to have detained four of the six accused, and they also said to have found the murder weapon. There are still two suspects at large.

In Sathra village, under Ushait police station, the murders happened on Monday night. Rakesh Gupta, his wife Sharda, and his mother Shanti Devi were all recognised as the deceased.

Ravindra Kumar Dikshit allegedly harboured a grudge against the victims' family, according to the polivr. Gupta was charged in the death of Dikshit's father a few years ago. The two families also belong to different political parties.
Gupta was a district panchayat member and a leader in the Samajwadi Party. He was at home when some men broke through their door and started shooting randomly, instantly killing him and his family.

According to Dr. O.P. Singh, SP Badaun, "an FIR has been filed at Ushait police station based on a complaint from the brother of the deceased. An old rivalry is said to be the cause of the murder. Ravindra Dikshit, Sarthak Dikshit, Archit Dikshit, and Vikram were named in the FIR. They have been arreswted under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of IPC."
