Tripura: A 17-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by a man in Tripura's Gomati district on Sunday, police said.
The offender has been apprehended and charged under the IPC and the POCSO Act. On Friday evening, the minor girl had come to Amarpur to attend a village fair at Chandibari shrine.
"In his two-wheeler, the man gave the girl a ride home. He forcibly took the girl to a jungle near Chelagang, a distant part of the Amarpur sub-division, and raped her on the way home," Officer in Charge (OC), Birganj police station, Jayanta Das told PTI over the phone on Sunday.
According to the Officer in Charge, the male abandoned the girl in the bush and fled early the next morning. "A police crew went to the scene after getting the information and rescued the girl. He stated, "Now the girl is at home and out of danger."
According to the police official, the victim's statement was recorded before a court magistrate on Sunday.
