Khowai: A 46-year-old booth level office bearer of the ruling BJP has been taken into custody for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in Khowai town of Tripura. Police said the criminal Shyamal Sarkar was to be produced before a court on Tuesday. Police said the victim is seven months pregnant.

The local police officer Sonacharan Jamatia said the case was filed on Sunday. Since then, the criminal Shyamal Sarkar had fled, but our team took him into custody late on Monday evening. The BJP activist and criminal government has been booked under Section 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and protection of children from sexual offences Act of the Indian Penal Code.

Talking to newsafter the case came to light, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said that the party has suspended the government. He said it is a dangerous matter. The police are free to take appropriate action against the culprit. Our party will not interfere in this case in any way. Recently, another similar case was reported in Uttarakhand. In which the BJP worker was accused of rape. In fact, some time ago, Mahesh Negi, a BJP MLA from Dwarhat from Uttarakhand, was accused of harassing a woman.
