In a statement, Truecaller said, "We have found a bug in Truecaller's latest update affecting the payment feature that registers them on True Paycaller without the user's permission as soon as this version is updated. This was a bug and we have turned off this app update so no other users are affected. We apologize to users for this update. It is not crossing our quality standards. We've fixed this bug. The new version that fixes this has been rolled out. Users who have been affected by this bug will get this new update soon. Earlier, users can deregister themselves by going to the menu section of the app."

"It is being entered into the app at a mistake without the user's permission," said Delhi Asbe, CEO and MD, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Users cannot make UPI payments with it. For UPI's onboarding, users will still need to enter 2FA or debit card details. The UPI PIN needs to be set after that. This will not have any effect on users' accounts. Users on Twitter complained about this bug from the company. One user tagged the company's officials and said they received a text message that Truecaller tried to register with a bank account for his payment service. The user said that they were not asked for any review. In order to complete such registrations, you need to enter other information, including a manual UPI PIN. The registration was not completed if the user did not enter this information. In addition, the user received messages that you have been registered for the UPI app.
