Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday (24 November) criticized former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and alleged that he had eliminated the fear of law from the minds of leaders who defected in Maharashtra. Raut claimed that by not deciding on disqualification petitions, Chandrachud kept the doors and windows open for defections.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Raut's statement comes after his party's crushing defeat in the state assembly elections, where it contested 95 seats under the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) but won only 20 seats. The performance of other alliance partners of the MVA was also not much better. Congress won only 16 out of 101 seats, and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) won only 10 out of 86 seats.

'Name will be written in black letters in history': Talking to reporters, Raut alleged, "He (Chandrachud) has eliminated the fear of law from the minds of the defectors. His name is going to be written in black letters in history." After the split in the undivided Shiv Sena in 2022, the faction of the party led by Uddhav Thackeray has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court on the disqualification of party MLAs who defected along with Eknath Shinde. The court had left the responsibility of deciding on the disqualification petitions to the Speaker of the Assembly. The Speaker had declared the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde as a "real political party.".

'… then the results would have been different': Raut alleged that the results of the assembly elections were predetermined. He said that if the then Chief Justice had decided on the disqualification petitions on time, the results would have been different. He also said, "We are sad, but not disappointed. We will not leave the fight incomplete. Division of votes was also a factor, and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) played an important role in the elections. The poisonous campaign has also had a negative impact on us.''

Raut has said that it would be better if the swearing-in ceremony of the new government is held in neighboring Gujarat. Meanwhile, in his weekly column 'Rokhthok' in the party's mouthpiece 'Saamana', Shiv Sena (Ubatha) leader Raut claimed that the time has come to express condolences to the Election Commission, which turned a blind eye to the use of money power. He alleged, "Courts have been in ICU for a long time."
