KIEV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has tweeted that he and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed approaches toward peace in Ukraine.

During the call, Zelensky remarked on the high degree of organisation of the Ukrainian and Russian delegations' negotiations in Istanbul, as per reports. Furthermore, the Ukrainian president expressed his gratitude for Turkey's willingness to serve as a security guarantee for Ukraine.

On Tuesday, Ukraine and Russia concluded a new round of face-to-face peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey. During the talks, Kiev proposed signing a new international treaty on security guarantees, which outlines the guarantor countries' duties to provide military aid to Ukraine in the case of an attack.

Ukraine's President, Vladimir Zelensky, previously stated that he was willing to discuss security assurances and a neutral position with Russia, but the country requires security guarantees that only other states can supply. Ukraine believes that the permanent members of the UN Security Council, as well as Turkey, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Israel, can ensure the country's security.
