Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has stated that his country wants to improve relations and collaboration with Gulf countries.
"We will preserve our connections with our Gulf brothers and sisters without distinction, within the framework of our common interests and mutual respect," Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul on Monday before flying to Doha, Qatar. "We applaud any efforts aimed at reopening conversation channels and clearing up misunderstandings in the Gulf area," Erdogan added.
According to reports, Erdogan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met in Ankara in November to try to mend fences after years of tension on a variety of topics.
The Turkish president will attend the 7th meeting of the Turkey-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee and meet with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during his visit to Doha.
According to the president, the two countries have signed 69 documents in a wide range of areas, including military, political, commercial, economic, and cultural fields, through the committee system.
