New Delhi: Social media site Twitter blocked the account of IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for an hour this morning. The reason was attributed to the violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of the US. However, Twitter later resumed the Ravi Shankar Prasad account warning.
Reacting to this, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, 'Friends! A very strange incident took place today. Twitter blocked my account for an hour. Prasad shared this information through desi microblogging and social networking site Ku. The social media company's action comes at a time when the controversy between the Central government and Twitter over new IT rules continues. Twitter representatives appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on IT Ministry last week in the matter.'
The committee questioned the company officials whether they follow the law of the country. On this, Twitter representatives had said, "We follow our policy, which is in accordance with the law of the country." Objecting to this plea, the Committee said in a strong tone to the company that we have the largest law of the country and not your policy.
