Twitter has faced a lot of difficulties in not following the new IT rules. Twitter has lost the legal security base found in India. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that twitter is raising several questions about the legal protection it has got in India. He said it is clear that Twitter refused to comply with the new IT rules which came into effect from May 25. Despite many opportunities, he deliberately chose not to follow them. This inquiry has since been conducted.
IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad posted a series of posts on the KOO saying twitter is going to be given several opportunities to follow these rules but it deliberately chose the path of flouting these rules. He said India's culture is going to change according to its vast geographical conditions. Social media has a huge impact in these situations.
The IT and law minister said that a small spark can turn into a big fire, especially in the case of fake news. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it is surprising that Twitter, which presents itself as the flag bearer of free expression, is itself flouting the rules.
Twitter used the manual policy at its convenience: He said, "Surprisingly, Twitter has completely failed to address the grievances of its users by setting up a grievance redressal mechanism as per Indian laws. Instead of following the manual media policy, he also used the tagging at his convenience. When he liked it, he put on a manuprated tag and did not do so when he disliked it. Prasad said what happened recently in Uttar Pradesh shows the irrationality of Twitter against fake news".
Indian companies believe in law where they do business: It has been revealed that Twitter is impatient about its fact check system on the one hand but failed to take prompt action in the case of disturbing reports like shaving of a Muslim elderly man in Ghaziabad, UP. He made no attempt to stop the misleading information. Prasad said Indian companies, whether in IT, pharma or other sectors, follow local laws when they go to the US or other countries to do business.
