Bangalore: Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari has been relieved in connection with a viral video of a Muslim elderly man being beaten up in Loni in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The Karnataka High Court on Friday quashed the UP police notice. Uttar Pradesh police have named Manish Maheshwari as an accused along with several others in the case.
The Karnataka High Court had recently ordered the UP police to record their statements through virtual means or by approaching them. Uttar Pradesh police had sent a notice to Manish Maheshwari to inquire into the complaint lodged after the video of the Muslim elderly went viral. Police had called Twitter India MD Maheshwari to Loni police station and asked him to join the interrogation. Maheshwari had then challenged it in the high court, on which the court granted him relief.
Recently, a video of Abdul Samad, a Muslim elderly man from Loni in Ghaziabad, went viral on social media. Some people were seen beating him up. The police had said in the case that there was a dispute over the purchase of amulets.
