NEW DELHI: Two passengers on board a Dubai-Mumbai IndiGo flight have been arrested for allegedly hurling abuses at crew and co-passengers in an inebriated condition, a police said on March 23.
Two passengers on the Dubai to Mumbai aircraft 6E 1088 were found to be intoxicated and persisted in drinking alcohol despite repeated warnings from the crew. They verbally harassed the staff and other passengers, according to an airline representative.
They were turned over to the CISF security officers as per protocol due to their disruptive behaviour. A complaint has been made following the event at the adjacent police station. We regret the inconvenience caused to other passengers," the spokesperson said.
The two passengers, who came from Nalasopara in Palghar and Kolhapur, demanded more booze despite already being inebriated. They were detained by the local police, and according to accounts, a local judge granted them bail.
The officials said, the inebriated passengers were returning to India after spending a year working in the Gulf and were in a festive mood.
They said that the two misbehaved with the crew when they intervened and with the other passengers when they objected to the commotion.
There have been numerous reports of rowdy behaviour by travellers in the last few months. On a trip from London to Mumbai earlier this month, a guy was detained for smoking in the restroom.
In order to deal with unruly behaviour, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 3- Air Transport, Series M, and Part VI titled "Handling of unruly/disruptive passengers".
As per the procedure defined in the CAR, airlines are needed to follow a prescribed procedure for holding passengers responsible before they are placed in the 'No Fly List'.
