London:  Maya and Rina Dee Di Mafart were identified on Saturday as the two British-Israeli sisters who were killed in a shooting on Friday in the West Bank.

According to local media, their mother Leah is still in a critical condition at the hospital. The sisters, who were 16 and 20, were killed at the Hamra Junction on their way to Tiberias after gunmen fired at their car and forced it off the road.

In a post on Twitter, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences to the family and described the attack as an act of terrorism on Friday.

He claimed on Friday that two young sisters had been murdered by vile and heartless terrorists. "Our troops are working in the field and are pursuing the terrorists hard. We'll hold them responsible in due time, and that time is quickly approaching.

He wrote on Twitter: "I send my condolences to the Di Mafart family for the murder of the two wonderful sisters, Rina and Maya, in the severe attack in the Bekaa on behalf of all Israeli citizens."

"In these moments, if the family is struggling for its life, and together with the entire nation of Israel, I pray for its safety. We all send our condolences and strength to this dear family in this moment of great sorrow," he continued.

According to a BBC report, the sisters' father, a well-known rabbi, had been moving forward in a different car. According to the mayor of the town, the family was an immigrant from the UK who lived in the settlement of Efrat. Following the attack, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of Britain urged all parties to defuse the situation.
