Kochi: In north Kerala district, two local party leaders have been arrested for raping a female ally of the ruling Marxist Party (CPIM). Police said the accused have been identified as PP Baburaj and TP Lizesh. Both have been arrested on charges of rape, infiltration into the house of the complainant woman and criminal intimidation. The complainant is a member of the Vadakara Branch Committee of the CPIM. Both leaders have been thrown out of the party.
Kozhikode Superintendent of Police (Rural) A Srinivas said the duo was arrested from Karimbanapalam near Kozhikode in the early hours of Monday. However, local police say they were not aware of the political background of the two. The victim is married and a mother of two children. She alleged that Baburaj and Lizesh entered her house three months ago and raped her. On the other hand, citing the reason for the delayed complaint, the victim said she was being threatened with a variety of threats.
According to the complaint, after the incident he raped the two several times by threatening to expose the relationship to the woman's husband and others. The complaint also accuses Lizesh of raping her with a similar threat. Fed up with the harassment being meted out by both sides, the victim approached the police and lodged a complaint on Saturday. Police sources said that before the arrest of the two accused, a medical examination was conducted on the victim and a statement was recorded in detail.
