Ministry of External Affairs Demands Immediate Halt to Recruitment!  In a tragic development, two Indian nationals recruited by the Russian Army have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and has demanded that Russia immediately stop recruiting Indian citizens into its military.

Efforts for Repatriation
The MEA released an official statement on June 11, emphasizing that the Indian Embassy in Moscow is working tirelessly to ensure the swift return of the deceased's mortal remains. The statement read, "We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our Embassy in Moscow has pressed the Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defence, for early repatriation of the mortal remains."

Casualties Among Indian Nationals
Reports from the Times of India identify three Indian nationals who have died fighting in Ukraine: Tejpal Singh, 30, from Amritsar; Hemil Ashvinbhai Mangukiya, 23, from Surat; and Mohammad Asfan, 31, from Hyderabad.

MEA's Stance and Warnings
The MEA has firmly taken up the matter with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and Russian officials in Moscow, advocating for the immediate release and return of all Indian nationals involved with the Russian Army. The ministry has also issued a strong caution to Indians considering employment in Russia.

"India has demanded that there be a verified stop to any further recruitment of our nationals by the Russian Army. Such activities are not in line with our partnership. We also urge Indian nationals to exercise caution while seeking employment opportunities in Russia," the statement added.

Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned in March that India has been in continuous communication with Russian authorities to secure the release of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army. "We are constantly in touch with Russian authorities. We have taken it up strongly for them to have our nationals released and discharged as early as possible," Jaiswal stated.
