Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested two women who were on their way to sell a one-year-old girl and rescued the girl. A senior police officer said that in the last two months, the city police have rescued a total of five children from the clutches of human trafficking. After receiving a news report, crime branch officials laid a trap and arrested a woman from Dadasaheb Gaikwad Nagar. During interrogation, the woman admitted that she was going to sell the child.

Police said that during interrogation, they got clues about another woman involved in the trafficking of this child. An FIR was lodged at Deonar police station in the case. DCP Sangram Singh Nishandar said that in the last 2 months, the police have saved a total of 5 children from being sold. Significantly, this year, a gang of child trafficking has been caught in Bijnor. These people used to come from Jharkhand on the pretext of getting jobs or roaming around poor children and brought them here and sold them to big moneylenders. Twenty-four persons, including 12 children, being trafficked from Jharkhand have been seized from them. The police have registered a complaint against them.

According to SP City Dr Praveen Ranjan, a team of anti-human trafficking unit and child protection officer received information late at night that an inter-state human trafficking gang was smuggling some children and people from Jharkhand to Bijnor. On the basis of this information, police teams were put behind this group and the gang was busted.
