Typhoon hits Southeast China and Taiwan, 8 killed

Beijing: In a tragic incident, a powerful typhoon lashed Southeast China and Taiwan in which at least eight people have been killed.

As a result of Typhoon Meranti, which struck Fujian province early on thursday, the number of deaths were updated by the China's Ministry of Civil Affairs. And still nine people are missing in China.

According to Chinese officials, "Meranti forced the relocation of 33 million people and destroyed 1,600 homes. Reported images showed power lines and destroyed vehicles downed on streets in the coastal city of Xiamen."

The parts of southern Taiwan still remain flooded, reported Taiwanese authorities.
