New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray visited Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal, at their residence in the national capital on Thursday. Thackeray was in Delhi for a three-day visit and was accompanied by his son, Aaditya Thackeray, and party leader Sanjay Raut during the meeting. AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha were also in attendance.

During the visit, MP Sanjay Singh shared that Uddhav Thackeray expressed his support for Sunita Kejriwal and Arvind Kejriwal’s parents amid ongoing legal challenges faced by the Delhi Chief Minister. Singh highlighted that the former Maharashtra CM discussed the unprecedented nature of Kejriwal's arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which, according to Singh, involved stopping his release without a copy of the order and the filing of a new CBI case to keep him in jail.

"Through ED-CBI, they [the government] want to suppress our voice. But we will all fight this government together. Everyone is standing with each other in this. Uddhav ji gave this assurance to Sunita Kejriwal and her family," Sanjay Singh stated.

Earlier in the week, the Delhi High Court dismissed Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest by the CBI in connection with the Excise Policy case. The court ruled that his arrest was justified. The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has also sought a short adjournment to address its plea for the cancellation of Kejriwal's bail, leading the court to question whether the cancellation would result in his re-arrest. The matter has been adjourned until September 5, 2024.

On Wednesday, Uddhav Thackeray met with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, ahead of the assembly elections in Maharashtra. Sanjay Raut and Aaditya Thackeray were also present at this meeting.

Thackeray's visit to the national capital is part of his efforts to rally opposition leaders in preparation for the upcoming state assembly elections, expected to take place later this year. The current government's tenure ends in 2024, but the Election Commission has yet to announce the election dates.

In the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP saw a significant decline in Maharashtra, securing only nine seats compared to 23 in the 2019 elections, with a vote share of 26.18 percent. Meanwhile, the Congress slightly improved its performance, winning 13 seats. The Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured seven and one seat respectively, bringing the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance's total to 17. The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) won nine seats, and the NCP, led by Sharad Pawar, won eight seats.
