Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday made a big revelation at a meeting of former MLAs at his residence 'Matoshree.' He said defence minister Rajnath Singh had called him up for the presidential election and appealed for Draupadi Murmu's support. But he was enraged by the way he greeted him when he picked up his phone. Rajnath Singh called me and said 'Assalam Walekum'.

That is what I objected to and said that even though we have come to government with the Maha Vikas Aghadi, we are not giving up Hindutva. Uddhav Thackeray said that after objecting, Rajnath Singh said 'Jai Shri Ram' and then spoke further.

He also said in the meeting that he was surprised to see a senior leader like Rajnath Singh using such language. Rajnath Singh is said to have said this while attacking the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in alliance with the Congress and the NCP. Uddhav Thackeray formed the government in 2019 along with the NCP and the Congress, which lasted for two-and-a-half years until the Eknath Shinde faction revolted. Ever since the formation of that Government, the Shiv Sena has been accused of compromising with Hindutva. The Shiv Sena has been attacked by the BJP over its Hindutva pact.
