UK Government remotes itself from Khalistan issue

At the beginning of this month, the UK government has separated itself from the issue of a rally organized in support of Khalistan by the Sikh separatist group in Trafalgar Square in London. The Sikh For Justice group organized the so-called "Declaration on Referendum 2020 Rally" that is to create a Khalistan country in 2020, on Jan 12. This led to a diplomatic stalemate between India and Britain, because India had warned Britain that before allowing this group to organize a rally, they thought about the bilateral relations between the two countries. India said that this rally propagates 'separatism and violence'.

A UK government source said that even though we approved to organize a rally but it should not be seen in such a way that we are in support or opposition. We are clear about this that it is a question of the people of India and the Government of India. This comment by the UK government came after the news of the exchange of letters between the Sikh For Justice group and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). It is said that this letter was written about 'Campaign for Sikh Self-reliance'.

The Sikh For Justice group had appealed to a small meeting with representatives of the UK government, in which he was going to raise issues of Sikh community. FCO refusing this meeting said that he encourages all the parties involved in the issue to resolve the dispute through negotiation.

On August 17, an unknown letter was received in which the 'Desk Officer for India' was written. It has been said that Britain is proud of the tradition of old-time tradition in its country that people can be credited independently and can demonstrate their views.

It has also been said in the letter, "The British Government is familiar with the incidents of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, with regard to the events of 1984 in which Sikh Bharbhim is familiar with the sentiments of the Sikh community. We ask all parties to ensure that their domestic laws are consistent with international human rights standards."
