London: The British charity Penny Appeal announced on Tuesday that it is coordinating with partner organisations operating in the regions affected by Turkiye's devastating earthquake to provide aid for those most severely affected by the catastrophe.

The charity with its headquarters in Yorkshire said: "Penny Appeal will be working with its partners on the ground to support the affected communities and provide much-needed assistance to the victims of this calamity."

"This will include those who have lost their homes, their families, and their means of obtaining food, water, or medications," the statement continued.

After the earthquakes and their aftershocks, which killed more than 7,200 people, charitable organisations quickly mobilised to send aid and send rescue teams. Through a series of powerful aftershocks and the initial magnitude 7.8 earthquake, hundreds of miles of southern Turkey and northern Syria were completely destroyed. They toppled countless buildings, adding to the region's misery as a result of Syria's 12-year civil war and the ensuing refugee crisis.

According to reports, the initial 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkiye near the city of Gaziantep was the worst to strike the area in a century, according to Penny Appeal.

"This earthquake, which resulted in hundreds of fatalities and extensive damage, was followed by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake, which is said to have resulted in additional fatalities and widespread devastation in Turkiye's Elbistan district.

Within hours of the first earthquake, a third one of magnitude 6.0 struck, wreaking havoc and bringing despair to communities throughout Turkey and Syria. Thousands of people were injured, and many more deaths were anticipated.

In order to coordinate their relief efforts and make sure that aid reaches those who need it most, the charity's local partners "are working closely with the local authorities and other aid agencies," it was added.

Penny Appeal's director of marketing and communications, Ahmad Boston, stated: "The earthquake victims in Turkiye urgently require our assistance.

"With the public's help, we can offer those impacted with the assistance they need to get through this trying time. Every contribution, no matter how small, will have a big impact.
