New Delhi: On a Sunday morning, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Rishi Sunak, arrived at New Delhi's Akshardham Temple to offer prayers during his visit to India. Stringent security measures were put in place both within and around the temple in preparation for the UK Prime Minister's visit. In a conversation with the media the day before, Rishi Sunak had expressed his intention to visit Akshardham Temple during his stay in Delhi for the G20 Summit. He conveyed his "enormous respect" for Prime Minister Modi and his commitment to supporting the success of the G20 Summit.

Rishi Sunak, who identifies as a proud Hindu, emphasized his desire to visit a temple in India during his trip. He mentioned that he missed celebrating Janmashtami due to his busy schedule but hoped to make up for it by visiting a temple. Sunak also spoke about the significance of faith, highlighting its role in providing strength and resilience during stressful times. The Akshardham temple was fully prepared to welcome UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Narayana Murty, on Sunday. An official from the temple, Joytindra Dave, stated that arrangements were made to receive them at the main gate, Mayur Dwar, and escort them to the primary Akshardham temple. Additionally, the temple was ready to facilitate any rituals or prayers, with deities of Radha-Krishna, Sita Ram, Lakshmi Narayana, Parvathi Parameshwara, and Ganapathi available for worship.

Rishi Sunak, accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, arrived in Delhi on Friday. This visit marks his first trip to India as Prime Minister since assuming office in October of the previous year. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties binding India and the UK. The bilateral relationship between the two nations evolved into a Strategic Partnership in 2004, further strengthening their multifaceted engagement. Rishi Sunak's visit to Akshardham Temple underscores the significance of religious and cultural connections in fostering international relations.
