KYIV – The Ukrainian Armed Forces said to have stopped Russian soldiers in the Chernihiv region of northern Ukraine, while fierce battle is still in Kharkiv, in the country's northeast, where the "enemy" has sustained losses.

Around 50 Russian personnel were killed in Ukraine's "retaliation" to Moscow's military activities, according to a post on the General Staff's verified Facebook page on Thursday. Ukrainian forces claimed to have shot down six Russian Air Force planes and two choppers, as well as destroying two tanks.

The military claimed full control of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine in a statement, though the situation in Kherson, in the south, is thought to be serious, with Ukrainian forces attempting to push Russian soldiers back.

Meanwhile, the operations are said to have killed more than 50 Ukrainian soldiers and injured dozens more. The Ukrainian Armed Forces urged civilians to remain calm, saying that all armed forces are in place.
