USA: Russian missiles struck the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil, which is home to the electro-pop duo Tvorchi, this year's contestants from Ukraine, as the Eurovision song contest was taking place in Britain late on Saturday.

Two people were hurt, according to local authorities who posted on Telegram that the strike had hit warehouses owned by businesses and a religious organisation.

Since last October, Russia has launched hundreds of rocket and missile attacks against Ukrainian targets. The British ambassador to Ukraine, Melinda Simmons, praised Tvorchi for their entry for Eurovision 2023.

The staging was superb. And meaningful because Ternopil, where they attended university, was the target of Russian missiles this evening, she tweeted.

Last year's winner, Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra, rode a massive wave of support from all of Europe to victory. However, due to Russia's invasion, Ukraine was unable to host Eurovision this year, as it usually does.
