Ukrainian refugee and footballer Andriy Kravchuk has been allowed to train with the English football club Manchester City after being approved by the Premier League. The decision was taken following the intervention of Manchester City and Ukraine football team defender Oleksandr Jinchenko. At the youth level, both Kravchuk and Jinchenko have played together in Shakhtar Donetsk. It is noteworthy that Kravchuk was in a training camp in Turkey with his Russian club side Torpedo Moscow when Russia's invasion of Ukraine began.
One report says that Kravchuk immediately terminated his contract with the Russian club following the invasion of Ukraine and moved to Manchester, where he is scheduled to train for the remainder of the season with Manchester City's under-23 team. Kravchuk has said about playing for the Russian club, 'I was feeling very uncomfortable. I was playing for a country which has attacked my motherland. The only decision was to leave the club. If I continue to play there, the people of Ukraine will not understand me. It is noteworthy that the family of 23-year-old Kravchuk is still in Kyiv, where his brother Alex is fighting for the country's security with the country's armed forces.
Kravchuk has further said, 'I tell my brother every day how proud I am for protecting not only our family but the whole country and the Ukrainian people. He's staying there and fighting. I'm really worried. I have connected with many groups on social media and have started receiving messages with constant bombing alerts. Every time the alerts come, I get very worried. The only thought in my mind is that my family's life is also in danger.'
Kravchuk has said he is grateful to Manchester City for allowing him to train at the club. His compatriot Jinchenko also assisted him. He has said that the last few weeks and months have been very difficult, but getting back on the field means a lot.
