ABU DHABI:  Ukrainian citizens can apply for a one-year visa to stay in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under an unique procedure, according to the Ukrainian Embassy here.

According to the embassy, Ukrainian citizens can apply for a one-year resident visa under a special provision for nations impacted by conflicts and disasters, citing the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.  The UAE government has decided to intervene and "play its part" as a result of the extraordinary situation in Ukraine. The application can be submitted at any of the Tas'heel centres in Dubai.

According to a decision enacted in 2018, stranded travellers who arrived earlier in the UAE can easily apply for a visa without being subjected to any penalty. It added that people from crisis-stricken countries and conflict zones are granted a one-year extension to better their living situations in the UAE until they are ready to return home.

"We really appreciate the UAE government's and leadership's sympathy and assistance for Ukrainian nationals who are attempting to improve their living conditions before returning home," the embassy said.

A couple of documents will be necessary to apply for the one-year resident permit. the embassy said, a price of 150 dirham (USD41) would be charged, which includes a medical examination and insurance payments.

In addition, a valid passport copy valid for at least six months, a colour photo, a medical fitness report, a copy of the UAE resident's health insurance policy, and an Emirates ID application form must be filled out when visiting the Tas'heel centre will be required.
