The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched an eight-week campaign to boost Covid-19 vaccination rates in Africa.
According to report, UNICEF announced the first-ever U-Report Challenge on Wednesday, which comes a week after COVAX delivered its billionth dosage in Rwanda. The challenge asks all 13.3 million U-Reporters in Africa to assist bring vaccinations to the unvaccinated.
The GiveItAShot project aims to activate young people in persuading those eligible in their community to get vaccinated by enhancing access and confidence in Covid vaccinations, according to a statement released in Nairobi, Kenya's capital.
U-Report is a messaging platform that allows young people all around the world to engage in and speak out about problems that are important to them.The U-Report works with SMS, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Telegram, and WhatsApp and is currently operating in 88 countries around the world, with 19.3 million U-Reporters.
Covid information and advocacy messages have been packed and sent via SMS, Facebook Messenger, and other communication channels, according to UNICEF.
The "U-Report GiveItAShot challenge," according to UNICEF, will be pushed out for eight weeks and will initially focus on six African countries: Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
