New Delhi: Rising inflation has taken a toll on the common man amid the epidemic. It is permissible for the people to suffer. Unless the Centre and the States negotiate, no solution is possible. Finance Minister Sitharaman said there can be no reduction in excise duty.

At the same time, he said, "The exchequer is burdened with interest payments for oil bonds issued by the UPA government. The government has so far paid interest of 62,000 crores rupees in the last five years only on oil bonds.'' He said that by 2026, we still have to pay another Rs.37,000 crores.

Further, the Finance Minister said that even after interest payment, a principal of more than Rs 1.30 lakh crores is still outstanding. If we had not been burdened with oil bonds, we would have been in a situation of reducing excise duty on fuel. The Finance Minister blamed the congress policies in their entire form for the current situation on vehicle fuel prices. Sitharaman attacked the UPA government saying she had reduced oil prices by issuing oil bonds worth Rs 1.44 lakh crores. I cannot do the kind of tactics that the previous UPA Government did. This has increased the burden on our Government and that is why we are not able to bring down the prices of petrol diesel.
