Patna: BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi recently said, "AIIMS will not be built by upgrading Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH), but separate AIIMS will be constructed.'' He said all this in response to a question recently.

He also said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha that "the Union Cabinet has approved setting up a new AIIMS in Darbhanga in September 2020 at a cost of Rs. 1,264 crore under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The DMCH will also remain and will have a separate new AIIMS."

He further said, "For the construction of new AIIMS in Darbhanga, the state government has to provide 200 acres of land identified and completely free from obstruction. But the land has not been provided so far." In the Rajya Sabha, the Minister also informed that further, up-gradation of Darbhanga Medical College at a cost of Rs. 150 crores for setting up of a super specialty block (SSB) under other components of PMSSY has also been sanctioned by the central government. The construction work of SSB has also been completed by 77.13%.
