The letter stated, ‘I met the Union tourism minister recently and explained the people’s struggle to liberate Hyderabad region from the clutches of the tyrannical rule of the Nizam and his private army of Razakars and how the people collectively ensured its merger with the Indian Union.’ Kishan Reddy further added, “When India celebrated independence on August 15, 1947, the people of Telangana state were still languishing under Nizam rule, hounded by the Razakars. Their spirited and sustained struggle for over 13 months after Indian independence led to police action, initiated by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and the liberation of the region.”
