The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical authors Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear were the targets of a copyright complaint from Netflix that was dismissed on Friday, according to EW. The streaming service asked for the dismissal of its initial lawsuit against the songwriting team in a court document from Washington, D.C., which Deadline was able to obtain. It stated, "Plaintiffs Netflix Worldwide Entertainment, LLC and Netflix Studios, LLC hereby dismiss this action with prejudice."

Netflix fired the duo, who go by Barlow & Bear, just one day after they were expected to answer to the streamer's initial complaint lodged this summer. The company gave no other explanation for the decision. In July, Netflix filed a lawsuit against the duo, alleging that they had violated the platform's "many objections" by performing "a large, for-profit stage play" of their popular TikTok musical in D.C.'s Kennedy Center earlier that month.

Additionally, it was claimed in the complaint that Barlow and Bear misrepresented to the show's viewers their connection to the Bridgerton series and engaged in unauthorised goods sales on air. It further stated that their display included, "over a dozen songs that copied verbatim dialogue, character traits and expression, and other elements from Bridgerton the series."

Barlow and Bear had also made plans to perform in London's Royal Albert Hall on September 20 at the time. Since then, the event has been postponed. "Netflix supports fan-generated content, but Barlow & Bear have taken this many steps further, seeking to create multiple revenue streams for themselves without formal permission to utilize the Bridgerton IP," in a statement to EW in July, the streamer stated.  "We've tried hard to work with Barlow & Bear, and they have refused to cooperate. The creators, cast, writers, and crew have poured their hearts and souls into Bridgerton, and we're taking action to protect their rights."
