New Delhi:  In a move that could leave India fuming, the United Nations Security Council 1267 sanctions committee approved monthly basic expenses of Rs 1.5 lakh LeT commander Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi.

Lakhvi, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks conspirator and the operations commander of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, was designated as a global terrorist by the UN under the United Nations Security Council Resolution in 2008 . He was designated after Mumbai attack  in which  166 people  lost life and  over 300  got injured.

He was released from a Pakistani jail in April 2015 after spending nearly six years in detention. The anti-terror committee of the UN Security Council granted permission for basic expenses to Lakhvi after the Imran Khan government reportedly approached the panel.  The committee also gave its nod to Pakistan’s request for a monthly payment to Mahmood Sultan Bashiruddin, a Pakistani nuclear engineer, and founder and director of the UN-listed entity Ummah Tameer-e-Nau. Earlier, In August 2019, the 1267 committee had approved Pakistan’s request to permit Mumbai terror attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed to use his bank account for “basic expenses."
