Lucknow: In a significant address on Friday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the urgent need for the 'One Nation, One Election' concept. He contended that in a democratic system, the alignment of government stability with expeditious governance is essential for fostering development. In this context, Adityanath hailed 'One Nation, One Election' as a commendable endeavor.

CM Yogi stated, "Political stability is paramount for a robust democracy, and within such a democratic framework, the expeditious delivery of governance services is vital for progress. From this perspective, 'One Nation, One Election' represents a praiseworthy initiative."

Expressing his views on this policy, CM Adityanath expressed gratitude that the committee responsible for exploring 'One Nation, One Election' is led by former President Ram Nath Kovind. He added, "For this innovative initiative, I extend heartfelt thanks to PM Modi on behalf of the citizens of Uttar Pradesh."

Emphasizing the significance of the proposal, Yogi Adityanath emphasized that 'One Nation, One Election' is not just a desirable option but a necessity. Frequent elections, he argued, act as impediments to development, as the election process alone consumes at least a month and a half's time. This interruption, he contends, hampers the development process. Therefore, it becomes crucial to synchronize Lok Sabha elections, Assembly elections, and other polls to streamline the process.

"The introduction of this initiative is a significant step, not only for development but also for the strengthening and prosperity of our democracy. I wholeheartedly welcome this initiative," stated the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

The Union government has formed a committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind to explore the feasibility of implementing 'One Nation, One Election.' This concept envisions holding general elections and state Assembly elections concurrently. Sources suggest that the committee will investigate the possibility of introducing legislation in this regard. Previously, a parliamentary standing committee, the Law Commission, and Niti Ayog had all examined the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal and submitted reports on the subject.
