LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh will spend Rs 150 crore to conduct the marriages of poor women belonging to other backward classes (OBCs).
The government has reportedly issued instructions to all districts, stating that non-compliance with the prescribed rules will be treated as an irregularity. He said that subsidies and funding had been made available by the state government for the marriage of "other backward classes" daughters.
The grant is provided by the state backward classes welfare department on applications submitted by any such family belonging to OBC classes. Under the Marriage Grant Plan, the state government has so far awarded 3,85,514 beneficiaries grants of Rs 771 crore.
According to the department's regulation, officers are required to notify the government of the amount spent under this heading by the 10th of every month. Also, the approved sum will never be utilised for any other project, and any residual funds must be placed in the Treasury at the conclusion of the fiscal year.
As per the terms and conditions set by the department, the annual income of the applicant should be Rs 56,460 in urban areas and Rs 46,080 in rural areas.
The bride must be 18 years old and the groom must be 21 years old while filling out the application. Certificates of caste must be included. Under the scheme, the benefits of the marriage grant can be extended to a maximum of two daughters from a family.
