Lucknow: Police have taken three persons into custody for allegedly converting a large number of women and men in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh. The police took this action on the basis of a complaint by the activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). According to information, the conversion work was going on inside a house in the Kotwali Harvanshpur area of Azamgarh city. A large number of men and women gathered here for the prayer meeting. They were all being taught Christianity.

When VHP workers informed the police about it, the police reached the house to raid. It was observed that more than 100 people were engaged in the Christian text. They all had religious books in their hands. The police acted promptly and detained three persons. They will now be questioned further. It is being told that one of the three accused caught was a minor, so the police released him. Those arrested have been identified as Rossi Sukh and Vijay Kumar. Superintendent of Police Shailendra said action will be taken after interrogating the accused.

VHP's Azamgarh general secretary Gaurav Raghuvanshi said, "We have been receiving complaints related to religious conversion for a very long time, which is completely illegal. Innocent people are being converted by giving them various kinds of inducements. Such things will not be tolerated. We demand that strict action be taken against these people and this work should not be repeated in future.''
