RAJKOT: At the 36th National Games' men's hockey final on Monday at the Dhyan Chand Stadium, Uttar Pradesh edged Maharashtra in the tie-breaker.

Sumit, Sunil Yadav, and Manish Yadav scored goals for Uttar Pradesh, and Aniket Gurav (2) and Sayyad Niyaz Rahim scored goals for Maharashtra, tying the game at 3-3 at the end of regulation.

Rajkumar Pal and Rahul Kumar Rajbhar scored for UP to make the score 2-2 after the tie-breaker, while Darshan Gawkar and Yuvraj Walmiki scored goals for Maharashtra in the shootout. Following Pratap Shinde's miss for Maharashtra, Indian camper Lalit Kumar Upadhyay scored for UP to give them a 6-5 victory.

Maharashtra appeared to have the advantage both on paper and in real life. However, Uttar Pradesh excelled when it needed most to maintain the contest until the bitter end.

Maharashtra got their mission off to a good start by repeatedly threatening the enemy citadel. With shrewd frontline leadership, Yuvraj Walmiki secured the game's first penalty corner. But they were unable to locate the net. Despite frequently being caught off guard, Uttar Pradesh's defence was able to prevent any serious harm.

Uttar Pradesh began to play well in the second quarter and began to attack Maharashtra at will. They quickly secured their first corner and even netted the opening goal to take the lead.

The most thrilling period was the third, when as many as four goals were scored, with Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh each sounding the boards twice.

However, Maharashtra rallied back to draw the game and force a tie-breaker. However, they had bad luck in the tie-breaker.
