The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) had released a recruitment notification for the positions of Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination, 2019, inviting applications from interested and eligible candidates. However, candidates will have to brace up now as the last day of form submission has come… Tomorrow, April 16, is the last date to apply for the positions. Applications can be submitted until 6 pm tomorrow.

Name of Posts: Combined Geo-Scientist, Geologist Examination

Total No of Posts: 106

Category I: Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines

(i) Geologist, Group A: 50
(ii) Geophysicist, Group A: 14
(iii) Chemist, Group A: 15

Category II: Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources

(i) Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group A: 27

Age Limit (As on 1st January 2019)

• To apply for the post of Geologist and Geophysicist and Chemist (Group ‘A’), a candidate should be in the age group of 21 to 32 years.

• To apply for the post of Junior Hydrogeologist (Scientist B) (Group A), a candidate must be between 21 to 35 years.

An age relaxation up to five years will be there for ex-servicemen category candidates and Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe.

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Geologist Group ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: A candidate for this post must have obtained Post-Graduate Degree in Geological Science or Geology or Applied Geology or Geo-Exploration or Mineral Exploration or Engineering Geology or Marine Geology or Earth Science and Resource Management or Oceanography and Coastal Areas studies or Petroleum Geosciences or Petroleum Exploration or Geochemistry or Geological Technology from any recognized university.

Geophysicists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: A candidate for this post should have Post-Graduate Degree in Physics or Applied Physics or MSc (Geophysics) or Integrated MSc (Exploration Geophysics) or MSc (Applied Geophysics) or MSc (Marine Geophysics) or MSc (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from any recognized university.

Chemists Gr ‘A’ in Geological Survey of India: A candidate should have obtained M. Sc. in Chemistry or Applied Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry from any recognized university.

Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group ‘A’ in Central Ground Water Board: The candidate must possess Post-Graduate Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognized university. S/he can also possess a Master’s Degree in Hydrogeology to apply for this post.

Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to the Examination, 2019 as per Regulations are given in Appendix-II of the rules for the Combined Geoscientist and Geologist Examination, 2019 in Gazette of India dated 20th March 2019.
