US Ambassador Affirms India's Crucial Role in US-China Rivalry, Indo-Pacific Stability, And More

Eric Garcetti, the US ambassador to India, emphasized in an interview that Washington views India as a pivotal ally in its strategic competition with China and in ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He highlighted US investments and partnerships, including with India, aimed at bolstering global stability amid interconnected challenges.

Referring to global security dynamics influenced by events like the Ukraine conflict, Garcetti underscored the importance of international partnerships. He stressed that US actions, alongside allies like India, aim to reinforce the international system against threats ranging from economic coercion to climate change and global health crises.

Ahead of the 2024 Nato summit in Washington DC, Garcetti emphasized the alliance's role in addressing global security challenges, including those in the Indo-Pacific. He noted the mutual benefits of exchanging expertise and experiences between Nato and its partners in this strategic region.

Garcetti reaffirmed the US stance supporting India's rise as a global power and a crucial partner in maintaining a connected, prosperous, secure, and resilient Indo-Pacific. Addressing India's position on Nato, Garcetti highlighted bilateral collaborations enhancing India's defence capabilities through advanced military technology and joint exercises.

Underlining collaborative efforts, Garcetti mentioned the Indus-X programme, part of the Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), fostering a defence innovation ecosystem. Within seven months, the initiative has yielded innovative solutions, such as PierSight's advancements in oil spill detection, showcasing the effectiveness of public-private collaborations in tackling pressing challenges.
