United States: After al-Qaeda was killed in a US missile strike, the State Department on Tuesday issued a warning to Americans traveling abroad about possible retaliation by the group and its supporters.

The department said it felt the worldwide caution update "has a high potential for anti-American violence given the death of Ayman al-Zawahiri on July 31, 2022".

The latest information points to the fact that terrorist groups are still preparing terrorist attacks against US targets around the world.

The department said in the update that US citizens are urged to maintain a high level of alertness and practice good situational awareness when traveling abroad because terrorist attacks often occur without warning.

According to a senior administration official, Zawahiri was killed on Sunday in Kabul, the Afghan capital, after he came out of his balcony and a drone fired a Hellfire missile at his home. The official said there were no other casualties.

According to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, the US operation required several months of intelligence work to track down his family in Kabul and identify the target.

During the last six or seven months, this mission really came into focus. As the president noted, we first learned that Mr. Zawahiri entered Afghanistan earlier this year, according to Kirby, who spoke to CNN on Tuesday.

Zawahiri, a 71-year-old Egyptian, took over the leadership of al-Qaeda after the terrorist group's founder Osama bin Laden was killed by US forces in Pakistan in 2011.

Zawahiri was referred to as the "mastermind" of several attacks against Americans, including the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, remarks made by President Joe Biden on Monday night at the White House was involved during

A year after the disorderly withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, Biden said the strike demonstrates America's commitment to preventing Afghanistan from becoming a haven for terrorist organizations once again. Kirby echoed Biden's remarks on Tuesday.
