NEW YORK: US President-elect Joe Biden promises a 'free of charge' coronavirus vaccine to all Americans but necessarily request Americans to wear masks after a caseload of deaths from coronavirus set a high record. US President-elect Joe Biden urgently called to wear masks after a single-day record of deaths due to coronavirus, with two people dying every minute.

According to a Reuters tally, the US recorded more than 213,830 new cases and 2,861 deaths on Thursday with several experts projecting the death toll will soon surpass 3,000 per day. On which, the US President-elect Mr. Biden promised a new national strategy that will impose mask mandates. Beyond the mandate, he urged people to voluntarily wear masks as a concern for individuals' life. In an interview with CNN, Biden said “On the first day I’m inaugurated ... I’m going to ask the public for 100 days to mask, just 100 days to mask, not forever, 100 days. And I think we’ll see a significant reduction if we incur that — if that occurs, with vaccinations and masking, to drive down the numbers considerably.”  Two promising vaccine candidates could receive emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration this month and start being vaccinated into the arms of healthcare workers, first responders, and nursing home residents before the New Year.

Biden also said he would be happy to get vaccinated publicly, as former presidents Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Barack Obama have pledged, in order to boost public confidence and persuade vaccine skeptics.
