US Election: Congress member of Indian origin Raja Krishnamurthy wins for the third time in a row

Washington: Vote counting is currently underway in the US for the presidential election. Meanwhile, there have been reports that Indian-origin Democratic MP Raja Krishnamurthy has been elected to the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress, for the third consecutive time. Born in New Delhi, 47-year-old Krishnamurthy easily defeated Libertarian Party rival, Preston Nelson.

At the time of writing the news, he has received around 71% of the total votes counted. Krishnamurthy's parents are permanent residents of Tamil Nadu and he was elected members of the lower house of the US Parliament in 2016 for the first time. Meanwhile, Congressman Amy Berra is trying to reach the House of Representatives for the fifth time from California and Ro Khanna from California for the third time. Voting continues in California and Washington and results are expected to be announced in the next few hours.

Dr Heral Tipirneni is seeking a third consecutive victory from Arizona's sixth congressional constituency. Kulkarni, who is fighting the Democratic Party from the 22nd Congress constituency in Texas, is giving a tough fight to Republican candidate Troy Nehls. Republican Party candidate Manga Anantamula, from the 11th Congress constituency in Wazernia, was trailing by about 15% of the votes from incumbent Democratic MP and candidate Gerry Connolly.
