US President Joe Biden is set to embark on a journey to India, where he will participate in the G20 Leaders' Summit. The White House has officially confirmed that President Biden's visit will take place from September 7th to September 10th.
During this summit, President Biden will engage with fellow G20 partners in extensive discussions regarding collaborative initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges. Key topics on the agenda include strategies for navigating the transition to clean energy and combatting the pressing issue of climate change. Additionally, deliberations will focus on mitigating the far-reaching economic and social consequences stemming from the conflict in Ukraine initiated by President Putin. There will also be an emphasis on bolstering the capabilities of multilateral development banks, including the World Bank, to more effectively combat poverty and address worldwide challenges.
While in New Delhi, President Biden will take the opportunity to applaud Prime Minister Modi's leadership within the G20 framework. Moreover, he will reaffirm the United States' unwavering commitment to the G20 as the foremost platform for fostering international economic cooperation. Notably, the United States is slated to host the G20 in the year 2026.
The leadership of the G20 is subject to rotation among its member nations. After India's tenure, the presidency will transition to Brazil, followed by South Africa.
Anticipated to be attended by an array of prominent global leaders, including Emmaneul Macron of France, Rishi Sunak of the UK, Xi Jinping of China, and Olaf Scholz of Germany, the summit is poised to be a significant event. One of the notable issues likely to spark vigorous debates is the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. While some, like China and Russia, deem discussions on Ukraine as tangential to the primarily economy-centered focus of the G20, Western nations and their allies are determined to prioritize this matter.
The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will symbolize the culmination of a year's worth of G20 processes and meetings encompassing interactions among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. Following the conclusion of the summit, a G20 Leaders' Declaration will be adopted, underlining the leaders' commitment to the priorities that have been deliberated upon and agreed upon throughout various ministerial and working group sessions, as outlined on India's G20 website.
