SEOUL: A senior advisor to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with a representative from the South Korean Foreign Ministry on Tuesday to discuss the two countries' alliance and other topics.

Derek Chollet, a counsellor with the US State Department, tweeted that he had met Yeo Seung-bae, the deputy minister for political affairs, in Seoul.

"We discussed our collaborative efforts on domestic and international challenges as well as the US-South Korea partnership. I value South Korea's collaboration on Burma "Without providing any other information, Chollet wrote, abbreviating South Korea's formal name as the Republic of Korea.

Hours earlier, he had written the following on Twitter: "Seoul is a terrific place to be! The US-South Korea alliance is the cornerstone of Indo-Pacific peace, security, and prosperity, and our countries are cooperating more closely than ever on a variety of international issues." It came after his office announced he will go to South Korea for two days starting on Monday to consult on alliance matters and local and international issues, including North Korea and Myanmar, sometimes known as Burma in Washington.

He is tasked with carrying out "special diplomatic duties" as instructed by the Secretary while serving as Blinken's top policy adviser at the level of Under Secretary, per the Department.
