The tech behemoth may have mistakenly compensated end users with cashback rewards for "testing" GPay features instead of paying its actual employees.

Google is offering cashback for "dogfooding the Google Pay remittance experience," according to a post in the /r/GooglePixel community. In plain English, it means that before making a new GPay transaction feature available to the general public, company employees are testing it.

With 9.64 lakh members, r/GooglePixel is Reddit's largest Pixel community. The ones that are active offer new updates and support for Google products like Chromecast, Nest, and the Pixel smartphones.

Some Pixel users have contacted Google after their notifications section started to overflow with updates for free credits, while others are taking advantage of the free credit. Google appears to be aware of the circumstance. The business has let the worried customers know that they will try to have the payment reversed. However, if they don't, people are free to keep the money.

A launch process is started when a new feature's development is almost finished, in accordance with Google's launch process and certification guide for GPay. End-to-end testing on a variety of devices and form factors is part of it. Integration, Finance, and Dogfooding are the three phases that testing is typically divided into. Dogfooding typically lasts for two weeks prior to launch, so users of Google Pay might get more free credits.
