Kanpur: An epidemic like corona has been considered by some private hospitals as a medium of blind earnings. Arbitrary recovery is being made from the patients. The average of bills being paid to corona patients is coming to around Rs.10,000 per hour. Apart from covid status hospitals, non-covid hospitals are also not shying away from taking advantage of the compulsions of patients.

The saturation of the patients is fine, yet they are told the need for oxygen. With the onset of oxygen shortage, hospitals have found a new way to fill their pockets in its name. If a patient's oxygen level is 90, he is intimidated. He is then given oxygen. As soon as the patient gets oxygen, the bill starts increasing rapidly. Such a patient is said to need ICU. Here the hospital meter starts running faster. The situation has worsened after corona's new strain arrived. It RTPCR reports many infected patients and damages the lungs.

The patient is intimidated in the name of this strain. In addition to oxygen in private hospitals, more items have been maintained by the management. Many of these expenses such as PPE kits are explained. This adds to the woes of the family members of the patients. The health department has also lodged an FIR against a hospital in connection with the overcharging case, yet such cases are not stopping. CMO Dr Anil Mishra has also issued an order that hospitals should not indulge in such activities. Cooperate in tackling the challenges of the Corona crisis.

There have been several instances of one of them being a 48-year-old woman from KDA colony Jajmau who was admitted to a hospital in Chunniganj. He was admitted for five hours. His bill was made at Rs. 50,000. His oxygen level was around 92. Blood sugar had increased. They were not even infected with corona. There was no respiratory problem, yet he was insisted on applying oxygen and was asked to stay in the ICU. She was under stress as her husband was abroad. The family later took them to another hospital in the area.
