Meerut: The 'Ganga Snan Mela' at Garhmukteshwar in Hapur district of West Uttar Pradesh and the 'Deepdaan' festival at Hastinapur in Meerut district have been cancelled this year due to Coronavirus. The fair was scheduled to begin in Garhmukteshwar on Wednesday and Hastinapur on Friday. In Meerut, a huge fair is organized every year at Makhdumpur Ganga Ghat, in which lakhs of devotees reach the Ganges Ghat and make their camp. For many days there were rows of tents along the Ganges.

On the eve of Kartik Purnima, thousands of people used to reach for the peace of the souls of the ancestors to donate lamps and 'Pind Daan', but this time the fair was not organized due to corona. A similar fair was held on the banks of the Ganges at Makhdoompur in Hastinapur, where thousands of devotees used to come to bathe in the river Ganges. Hastinapur MLA Dinesh Khatik said that due to the epidemic this year the fair in Hastinapur has been cancelled.

On behalf of the Hapur administration, it has been said, "In compliance with the order, the movement of devotees has been banned at the fair site on the banks of the Ganges from November 25 to 30." They said that section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code is implemented.
