Lucknow: In a Muslim-dominated village in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district, a Hindu family was attacked after they protested against making obscene gestures to women. During this, there has also been talking of molesting women and tearing their clothes. Along with this, the Hindu family has also been threatened to leave the settlement. After the complaint, the UP Police has arrested two accused in this case. However, the police have denied the threat of leaving the settlement.
Jam Sawant Janubi village of Thana Bahedi in Bareilly is a Muslim majority. The victim's Hindu family also lives here. The head of the victim's family has alleged that his neighbour Rafiq and his sons - Rashid, Asif, Arif and Zahid - climb on their rooftops and make obscene gestures to the women of his (Hindu family) house. At around 10 pm on March 28, 2022, 10-12 unidentified youths were also present on the terrace along with these men and they were making obscene gestures on seeing the women of his house. When they protested, the accused pelted stones at his house and attacked the family with a sword.
The victim's side has alleged that during this time, the accused smashed her brother's head and caught the women and girls of the house and also committed obscene acts with them. The accused also tore the clothes of Hindu women. The victim also said that the accused threatened to not allow Hindus to stay in the colony anymore. In this case, the victim lodged a complaint with the police station, on the basis of which a case has been registered under various sections against 9 named and 12 unidentified persons. Meanwhile, two accused Rafiq and Qasim have been arrested and sent to jail, while the search for the others is on. On learning about the incident, Hindu organisations met the victim's family and assured them of all possible help.
