Lucknow: UP police have detained SP chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow to prevent him from going to Lakhimpur Kheri. Akhilesh was accompanied by SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav and several activists who were also taken into custody by the police. Samajwadi Party (SP) workers staged a fierce protest outside Akhilesh's house. It is alleged that the protesters also set fire to the police jeep. Police have picked up Akhilesh Yadav and rushed him to Eco Garden amidst his Dharna.

Earlier, there was a ruckus outside Akhilesh's house. The police jeep was set on fire. In fact, Akhilesh Yadav was scheduled to visit Lakhimpur Kheri this morning but before that, a truck was barricaded outside his residence in Gautampalli. Meanwhile, angry protesters blew up the police jeep. Akhilesh along with several activists had sat on Dharna protesting against the police.

In Uttar Pradesh, the situation in UP has heated up over the Lakhimpur violence. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav left for Lakhimpur on Monday morning but was stopped by police and security forces just 100 metres away from his house. Akhilesh wanted to meet the family of the deceased in Lakhimpur. Akhilesh's uncle Shivpal Yadav has also left for Lakhimpur Kheri.
