LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is gearing up to introduce the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations Ordinance 2024 in response to recent instances of paper leaks during crucial state examinations, including the Constable Recruitment Exam and the RO-ARO exam.

The State Cabinet has unanimously approved the ordinance, which mandates severe penalties for individuals involved in paper leaks. According to the proposed legislation, culprits could face life imprisonment along with fines reaching up to Rs 1 crore.

In February, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board had to cancel the direct recruitment-2023 written examination for reserved civilian police positions due to allegations of question paper leaks. This decision affected over 48 lakh candidates who participated in the constable recruitment exam on February 17 and 18.

Following the leak incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed firm resolve, stating that the government would not tolerate such malpractices. The cancellation of the police constable recruitment exam was part of the immediate actions taken by the government in response to the alleged paper leak.

In addition, the government took disciplinary action by removing Renuka Mishra from her position as Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Board. Rajeev Krishna was appointed to assume the responsibilities as the interim Chairperson.

The Uttar Pradesh administration also initiated an inquiry into possible irregularities and misconduct related to the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) exams at the governmental level, emphasizing the seriousness with which such incidents are being addressed.

The introduction of the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations Ordinance 2024 marks a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and fairness of examinations in the state, aiming to deter future instances of paper leaks through stringent legal measures.
